Dear Parents of WIA/GCIA Students,
亲爱的家长和威斯康星国际学院/大芝加哥国际学院学生们:
        As an experienced teacher, principal, and superintendent for 40 years, Mr. Sun asked me to help him start Wisconsin International Academy in Fall 2012 and now to comment on our growth since then in mission, value, academics, and student successes in high school and college.
        作为一名经验丰富的教师、院长和拥有40年经验的学监,孙建国先生在2012年秋季的时候,请我帮助他建立威斯康星国际学院,现在请我就我们自成立以来,我们在使命、价值、学术、学生在高中和大学取得的成功,这几个方面的成长做如下陈述。
        Mission - I recall drafting our first mission that included ensuring student safety, instilling student self-discipline, refining practical and academic English, excelling in academics, and bridging cultures between China and America. This is still our mission yet now illustrated by staff and students, measured for consistency, and tested by challenges to make it stronger.
        使命 – 我记得我们第一次起草的使命包括:确保学生安全,灌输并培养学生自律精神,精炼并提升学生的实用英语和学术英语能力,帮助学生取得出类拔萃的学业成绩,以及缩小中美文化鸿沟。现在,这依然是我们的使命,因为它历经我们的员工和学生的证实,字斟句酌、一贯传承,经过挑战的考验且更加强大。

        Value - We identified the 3C values of Compassion, Competence, and Contribution. Compassion is about a heart for each student and building a community of students within WIA and partner schools. Competence is about being curious, learning, and performing daily with your best effort. Contribution is about giving of yourself individually and in community through participation and leadership that builds confidence while helping others. While WIA is a dorm room, meals, and transportation it is also a place where compassion, competence, and contribution are actively practiced. It is Total-Care™, unique in the international study marketplace.
        价值观 – 我们认同3C价值观:同情(Compassion)、能力(Competence)和贡献(Contribution)。同情,是指对每一位学生抱有一颗爱心,在威斯康星国际学院和合作学校之间建立一个社区。能力,是指保持一颗好奇心、好学心,每天都尽最大努力表现的状态。贡献,是指通过参与和领导力锻炼,在帮助别人的同时建立自信,从而在个人和社会中奉献自己。WIA不仅仅提供住宿、餐饮和交通,同时是一个积极实践同情、能力和贡献的地方。这就是Total-Care™,在国际留学市场上的一种独特的关怀。

        Academics - We selected our partner schools based on academic reputation, innovative programs, student and academic support, and co-curriculum opportunities. Academic success is competitiveness in college admissions to include Top 50 for students with ability and drive to earn these opportunities. Innovative program examples are AP (advanced placement, IB (international baccalaureate), STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), and performing and visual arts. Student and academic support is school culture, small classes, and individual attention. And co-curriculum is before and after school opportunities that provide friendship, teamwork, leadership development, confidence, and service.
        学术 – 我们选择合作学校参考如下依据:学术荣誉,创新项目,学生和学业支持,以及课外活动机会。学术上的成功(学术荣誉),是指在大学(包括前50大学)录取上的竞争力,培养学生的能力,驱使学生获得这些机会。AP课程(advanced placement),IB课程(international baccalaureate),STEM课程(science, technology, engineering, math),表演艺术和视觉艺术,都是创新项目的例子。提供学生和学术支持的学校,通常是有自己校园文化、小班教学、个性关注学生的学校。课外活动机会,是指课前或课后帮助学生发展友谊、团队合作、领导力发展、自信和服务。

        High School Success - High school success has many parts. For example, desire to succeed shown by daily attendance with assignments completed, leveraging strengths and managing weaknesses shown by asking questions and seeking help, and time management shown by planning, working ahead, not falling behind. WIA has a portfolio program where students start planning for senior year and college as freshmen. It tracks courses and grades, activities and co-curriculum areas, college applications, and growth. Many activities are through WIA’s Rising Scholar Circle student led clubs. Here is a current WIA senior as an example: Cumulative GPA 4.49, ACT 33, TOEFL 108. Current courses: IB English, IB Physics, IB Java, AP Calc, AP Stats, Philosophy, ELL 5. Co-Curricular Areas: Robotics and Key Club. Summer Programs: Duke University. College Visits: Duke, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley. Reflections: Paragraph that illustrates leadership and contribution at WIA and partner schools.

        College/University Success - College/university success is predicted by high school success, college entrance test scores, entrepreneurial/leadership experience, career aspirations, and maturity that continues to develop after high school. Here are example college/university entrances and attributions of recent WIA Rising Scholar alums:

        As another example, one of of WIA’s current Catholic Memorial seniors with GPA 4.506, ACT 34, TOEFL 113, and president of the WIA’s Engineering club is currently being offered full scholarships to the top engineering colleges/universities in America!

        I am so proud of our students who navigate and excel in a second language and culture yet retain the precious uniqueness of their wonderful homes and families in China.
